The Weekly Sugar Rush - The Surprising Connection Between Sugar & Sleep

Hope you had a lovely Easter! Did you find yourself eating more sugar than normal? Sometimes with all the extra chocolate around it can be hard to resist.

If I overdose on sugar I always notice my sleep deteriorating. It doesn’t happen that often but when it does I find myself tossing and turning from about 2am onwards. And I absolutely know that sugar is to blame!

Consuming too much sugar, especially in the evening, can disrupt your sleep by causing blood sugar spikes and crashes. The increase in insulin (that removes the sugar from your blood stream) can disrupt the production of the right hormones for deep sleep. This can lead to restlessness, waking up in the middle of the night, and feeling exhausted the next day.

And it often takes a few days for the cycle to break because I always find myself craving more sugar the next day!

So this is what I do to help break the cycle.

Make sure I am eating lots of good quality protein for breakfast as this will balance my blood sugars from the start of the day.

Not eating after 7pm so my insulin levels have time to come down before bed

Making sure I am fully hydrated so that my liver can function efficiently throughout the night.

These are all simple steps that I teach on The Sugar Free Method, my signature programme, that will show you how easy it is to manage weight effectively, improve sleep and have more energy.

Would you like to join us? I will show you how you can control your consumption of sugar rather than it controlling you! It is so simple and you will feel amazing by the end of the 4 weeks.
