The Weekly Sugar Rush - Is Sugar Making Your Joint Pain Worse?
Last summer I damaged my knee – and I have been on a regimented rehab programme to help it repair. However a few weeks back (mothers day) I indulged in some delicious cake. Basically a lot more sugar than I would normally have!
Whilst I enjoyed the cake in the moment the following day my knee was far more painful than it had been! And I realised that the extra sugar the day before had really impacted the inflammation around my knee! This is the impact that even just the smallest amount of sugar can have on joints that might already be inflamed.
Are you struggling with joint pain? If so then why not think about reducing down your sugar consumption?
Sugar will trigger inflammation in the body, which can aggravate conditions like arthritis and general joint stiffness. When you consume sugary foods, your body releases inflammatory chemicals called cytokines, which contribute to swelling, pain, and discomfort.
Refined carbohydrates, like white bread and sweets, also spike your blood sugar levels, leading to a cycle of inflammation and pain. The more sugar you consume, the harder it is for your body to manage joint health.
The solution? Reducing sugar intake and focusing on anti-inflammatory foods, like leafy greens, healthy fats from seeds and nuts, and lean plant proteins can help ease joint pain and improve mobility.
This is my last weekly Sugar Rush before the Easter break! Have a lovely long weekend and try not to eat too many Easter eggs!
