How to make changes to your wellbeing without feeling overwhelmed

Can I be honest with you? I think "New Year, New You" is one of the biggest lies we've been sold. Not because change isn't possible, but because we've been taught that change has to look like a dramatic overhaul. And now we are half way through the year and has anything changed? Did you go back to your old ways?

If you're in perimenopause or beyond, you'll know this cycle all too well. Your body has changed. What used to work doesn't anymore. And every diet that once shifted the weight in a fortnight now seems to do absolutely nothing, except leave you tired, cranky and reaching for the biscuit tin out of sheer rebellion.

So lets talk about why small, boring, unglamorous changes are actually the secret to lasting wellbeing in midlife, and how to make them without that familiar feeling of overwhelm creeping in.

Why "all or nothing" doesn't work anymore

In our 20s and 30s, we could crash diet our way to results. Cut the calories, add some cardio, job done. Menopause changes the rules. Falling oestrogen affects insulin sensitivity, cortisol, sleep and where we store fat (hello, menopause middle). Which means the harder and faster you try to force change, the more your body pushes back.

Restriction and willpower alone were never going to be a long-term strategy. What actually works is consistency: small, doable habits that you can still be doing in six months' time, not just six days.

Three ways to make change without the overwhelm

1. Pick ONE thing, not ten.

We love a fresh start, so we love an ambitious list: cut sugar, start walking, drink more water, meditate, meal prep, go to bed earlier... all from Monday. It's exhausting just reading it, let alone doing it. Instead, choose the one change that will make the biggest difference, and give it your full attention until it's simply part of how you live. Everything else can wait its turn.

2. Swap the scales for how you feel.

Weight can fluctuate for a dozen reasons that have nothing to do with whether you're doing well (hormones, sleep, stress, the time of the month you no longer have but your body still remembers). Notice your energy, your sleep, whether your clothes feel a bit looser, whether the 3pm slump has eased. These are the real markers that lasting change is happening, long before the scales catch up.

3. Get support, not willpower.

Here's the truth nobody tells you: willpower is a limited resource, and by 4pm most days, yours is running on empty. Women who make lasting change rarely do it through sheer grit alone. They do it with structure, accountability and a community of women cheering them on, and being honest with them when the biscuit tin nearly wins.

This is exactly why I built The Feel Fabulous Club

I created the Club because I got so tired of watching brilliant women punish themselves with diets that were never designed for their changing bodies. Inside, there's no calorie counting, no weighing and measuring, and definitely no shame.

Instead, you get the Feel Fabulous Method: a simple, three-module programme that helps you build the real foundations of menopause weight loss, blood sugar balance, gut and liver health, better sleep, and fewer sugar cravings, at a pace that suits you.

You'll also get weekly live Q&A calls, daily accountability threads, monthly masterclasses, coffee catch-ups, and a genuinely lovely community of women in the same boat, all for £37 a month.

No dramatic overhaul. No starting again every Monday. Just steady, supported progress, so that in six months' time you look back and realise you've changed your whole lifestyle without ever feeling like you were "on a diet" at all.
